Is this done on that machine people talked about a while back that basically cut rings? Yes, cut out using a Ringmaster lathe

How exactly does that work with the rings, are they sized so that one sits on top of the next and you glue them together?

The angle is set based upon the thickness of the wood so that the rings will match up as you stack them. Here is a video from you tube:

Interesting, watched him put in the plugs too. I agree that using the 1013 to make some covers will be a good selling addition to the bowls, otherwise you'd limit your market to just those people who wanted a bowl. With a "custom" cover you can appeal to more people.

Bob, did yours come as a complete setup, electric motor and all? I ask because I looked up Ringmaster on ebay (one selling, bid at $112 right now) and the one they had looked like it was the piece where the guys hands are, but not the electric motor/lathe part. And it says something about for a Shopsmith. Just wonder if it came complete ready to use.

Rick, yes the one I bought is a stand alone unit complete with everything. They do make some of them to fit specific models of lathes and they are fitted to hook up with that specific model only. Love the idea of making a bowl from a single board instead of chewing up a whole block of wood. Still have finish work left on these:

Looking for a quick and easy project to sell? I bought a round table top at Menards for $7, planed down a 4x4 to 3x3 (actual), then carved two sides with the 1013 to give it some class. This is a portable table you can take out into the yard (there is an 8" rod sticking out of the bottom that goes into the ground for stability), in our case we'll use it around the firepit. Total cost to me was under $15, and I've sold 4 so far at $35. Attachments:

I will post some pictures as soon as I get some help with using my new smart phone.

Gregory, great that you have the ringmaster machine as well. Maybe we can trade some ideas sometime.
