In carving time, the table top was an hour (0.15mm scan step, low speed, 1/8" depth); each leg side was a little different but about 3 hours each (0.15mm scan step, low, 0.18" depth). This was after I'd planed down a standard 4 x 4 to 3 x 3 to fit the 1013 and improve the surface finish. Stain and finish probably a couple days with several coats and drying time. Actual work time is, of course, a lot less. One thing I enjoy with the 1013 is that once you set it up and start it, you're free to make grocery runs or whatever - though it is a little mesmerizing to stand and watch. Oh, and cutting out the handle and routing it took another 20 min. Basically you can do all the carving and cutting in a day, I also (unseen) use a forrester bit to glue in a magnet under the table and a washer into top of the leg so that you get some added holding power with the table flat for use.

John, thought I'd left a reply here but I don't see it so once again I probably left without hitting the post button. Your garden structure is incredible, it looks like those are 6 x 6 beams, how did you support the weight while the piece was carving the various segments? Your abilities with grayscale images is incredible, I wish I had your skills but I'm too lazy to learn.
Also curious as to what type of wood and finish you used for this outdoor unit?

Make decorative Cement Blocks with your CNC router: Just read about making chocolate molds in the Corian subject thread. Along the idea of making molds, here is a picture of some cement blocks I made last Christmas (actually most of these are 2nds I did not gift to nieces/nephews/brothers for flower gardens). The molds were from 2" insulation foam - a well blurred image with left to right transformation, about 0.50" depth of cut, normal feed rate, 0.010" y scan step, coated with latex paint as a release agent and to smooth the surface. The foam was flexible enough (unlike corian) to peel off the partially cured blocks. There was a lot of experimentation as to the best concrete mix and how to pack it to avoid surface & edge voids and cracking, and exactly when to peel the mold off. I attempted a 12x12" family crest but had too much detail & a lot of the fine work is retained in the mold & tears away. Also have made male/female press dies out of maple and hinged them together to make a napkin embosser (sorry but no pics attached). Relative sizing of male & female dies is something you must experiment with to ensure there is clearance for the pressed material between the dies, else you get poor image transfer to the metal or paper stock, and wrinkles.

Sorry Rick been very busy, as for the 6x6 posts i made them myself and i boxed in the 6x6 with the carved boards , as for exterior coating i used a marine grade epoxy resin with ultraviolet additive to it, its a little expensive going at think it was 100.00 bucks a gallon but it will last 20-30 years easy, sorry for the delay just been crazy carving, if you like to check out my page here is my link www.facebook.com/GeppettosCanadianCNCWoodCarving3DSpecialists/ please join and check out the 89.5 X 40" door with the Boondock Saints Irish Brothers Celtic Cross on it cheers lads and happy new year best wishes to everyone here

I'm going to look into the marine grade epoxy, been thinking about some outdoor projects but the short lifespan of wood outdoors has held me back. Looked at the FB page, nice stuff....but I'm sure you didn't do it on a 1013

I wanted to thank John for both the info on marine varnish and the idea for the sign below........this is the largest piece I've made and it will be used at our lake place, so luckily it will only be out during the summer and brought in during the winter, hopefully expanding it's life longer. Thanks for sharing your ideas, it motivated some customers for us to spend their money on similar signs for their own use. Attachments:

Rick, sort of something like this: I made this and sold it to a lady a year or so ago and she loved it.

Just did something similar for another customer......I'll post the final product after I get it there. I did a light sanding on the motorcycle after this picture was taken, and before putting polyurethane on it. Attachments:
