Been busy myself, just did an arts/craft show for 2 days would have been 3 but rained 3rd day. This was my first try at it and it went very well, at the rate it was going the 3rd day would have made it outstanding.

Bob, what did you take to the art show that you made on this machine? Did you take samples of different carvings and take orders for finished products, or did you just carve different things for sale?

Rick: I had about 95 pieces made to take to the show, and did get a few special orders from people. I've been to tons of these shows on the spectator side and I have yet to have seen any carvings like can be done with the machine so my thought was it would be successful, plan to do a few more in the coming year.

Bob - so it was just a carving, say of a horse or something? Or did you specialize in signs or something like that? I'm thinking that our church bazaar each November has a huge crowd and religious style pictures would probably sell well.

Bob: did you use a router to get the inside curve on the "frame". Your addition of the room looks fantastic.

Here's something I'm thinking of doing, and the easiest way to explain it is using Bob's picture as a reference. Think about the Last Supper before he added a room to it, after carving the piece I'm thinking of taking a scroll saw and cutting out the "picture" which would leave me with just the figures and no background. Has anyone done this (with any picture), and did it look right?

If you want to try something new like that then just make your line spacing bigger and the depth shallow and use some scrap wood, I think I would stretch the drawing out with a photo program if it's not big enough and make your cutting close to the max size the machine can use.
It will only take about 30-45 minutes to cut a ruff cut and test your idea then toss it away and make a good one if you like what you did.
Me and Bob have been using this machine for about two years when we started we had to figure out just about everything by trial and error because there was no one to ask.
You can sell this stuff pretty easy because it sells itself, I've never taken my carvings out to a show people just come to my house to see what I have by word of mouth.

Actually I have all the design incorporated into the grayscale image I made for the last supper including the frame area.

Bob, your picture is also a lot sharper than I normally get, unless you did a ton of sanding. I normally get a lot of "fuzz" when the bit is raising up to a shallower cut, on the right side of a hill so to speak. I deal mostly in oak, cut at a .005 spacing at about 1/4" depth with the R05 bit. I get this whether or not I have a new bit in the machine. I don't remember getting this much fuzz when the machine was new.

.005 is the problem with fuzz and maybe bit getting dull. if you want fine detail you have to make fine cuts and it takes twice as long too, I have made cuts that took 16 hours to finish.
