Some times it works, and other times I get this message when opening a gee code file "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. does anyone know what this means

I do not have art cam or any other cutting/design program, but to take a stab at it,. sounds like missing the post processor or incorrect one. If Greg comes online he would likely know for sure, for me it's just a guess.

what do you do your designs on? I use i carver PP with artcamn

All of my designs are just the grayscale images I create and use Ipicture to convert files for carving. I use a program referenced elsewhere on the forum called GIMP which stand for Graphic Image Manipulation Program. There is quite the learning curve to create the images but once you get it, it all gets fairly easy.

Are you trying to read a gcode file with artcam? if so that wont work you should have a file that was your work file and that one can do a simulation cut. There are a few free programs that will test run a gcode file for you one is named simply kirk.exe

Greg, are you using a Vectric program such as Cut 2d, Photo v Carve or are you using Art Cam product ?
