The idea is to market them to newbie consumers. so you have both inch and metric.
Americans are pretty narrow minded regarding acceptance of other standards. Quite a few are still waiting for the UN Blue hats to invade Texas. Making them work with metric is tantamount to bowing down to the Queen.

I bought the 1013 when it first came out (2011). The software that it came with was not what a cnc is designed to do. So I bought V-carve pro, got the post processor from Oliver, then modified the G-code to optimize the machine and it has worked fine since. There are severe limitations on controlling things. For example, the spindle speed cannot be modified from the G-code. I wish I had known about this but I suppose when you are early to buy something new you take a chance.

Need Help. Using 1013 intelicarver. Purchased photoVcarve. Cannot get 1013 to work with phtoVcarve. Oliver sent me intelcarve PP and it copied it to photoV carve program file X86 PP folder and it does not work. check out my Proceedures: 1. setup job in photoVcarve 2. save file and toolpath as intelicarve.nc 3. place usb stick into 1013. 4. select file and it won't do a border check and when I process it goes all over the material not cutting anything. What am I doing wrong ? Someone please let me know the correct proceedures or advise me if the PP are the problems Thanks
Tried to import it into Ipicture and I get a unreadable format error

You don't get to do the border thing unless you run your nc file through i-picture and get a gee code file but you can still load an nc file into the machine and let it go. When I set mine up I set it for center start when using an nc file I also watch it close a few minutes to make sure all is well.
I have had trouble with the post p inch file so I use the metric file.
I would kind of like to know if that post p is the same one I uploaded here or is it a new one by oliver?

I would have to go back to the manual to get the right value but what gets changed is the 1.2 setting. The .2 deterrmines the decimal place and I think 1.4 is for inch settings but like I said I would have to go back to the manual to make sure of that setting before I would change it.

I was wondering what value changes the y axis speed, forgot to put that in the original post.

That feed rate value, when I change the feed rate in cut2d it adds the line F250 to my gcode and the feed rate setting of 1.1 is a multiplier. Some people says it doesn't work for them so maybe its something cut2d is doing.

I recently bought the Intellicarve 1013, my very CNC experience, iPhoto works great with included graphics disk however I have not had much success with any other JPG, BMP, Etc. I have tried to use with the software. I am considering buying VCarve Desktop and I don't understand this whole Post Processor thing. Will VCarve Destop WORK with the 1013 and what do I need to do to make it work?
Thanks for any advice and guidance,
Mark

I've had good luck with converting pictures from jpeg and png into the ipicture software and carving it out. There is a little learning curve, and before you spend a lot of money on new software look at what you might already have on your computer. I use Photoshop Elements, I take a jpeg and convert it into png (jpegs can leave little pixels around the outer lines that the machine picks up, png gives better outlines). Then I convert the picture into grayscale (simple one click in Photoshop). I pay attention to the dark and light areas of the picture, for example one of my two granddaughters side by side presents a problem - one is blond and the other dark haired. Blond hair would sit ontop the head, dark hair cuts into the forehead since the ipicture software considers lighter colors a shallow cut and darker ones a deeper cut. So I may, if necessary, have to lighten her hair in the picture.
There is a free software called GIMP available on the internet, and one impressive carver here uses it and has posted several tutorials on how to use it on this bulletin board. If you don't have a photo editing program, this might be a free way to go. There is a learning curve, but what you do on the computer will enhance your enjoyment of the finished projects.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with VCarve, but I know some of the expensive CNC software programs are overkill for your average hobbiest like me.

Since I went back to using this machine this week I finally realized you can change the units on the machine itself so I hope I cleared up any confusion I created by not doing this in the first place.
