Rick, this morning when I removed the memory stick from the USB port, there was a small plastic piece still in the stick. Is this part of the "Mother Board" and is this how your "Mother Board" problem started? Thanks, FatPoppy

Fat Poppy, I do believe that is the same problem Rick experienced. He had this happen 2 times I believe, resulting in replacing the motherboard. My self I would investigate getting a new one soldered in place by an electronics repair person, nothing to lose since the only alternative is to replace the entire motherboard.

Thanks for the reply Bob. I went back and read all the posted problems he had and it started the same way. I called a man this afternoon to see if he could replace the USB on this board, had to leave a message for him to call me back. ICONICS has one on hand, about $265. I plan to try the cheaper route first. FatPoppy

Sounds like exactly the same problem I had Fat Poppy. I determined that the problem likely was in the flash drive I was using, had too good a grip on the USB port plastic piece. I had planned on taking the motherboard in to see about having one soldered in, screwed up and tossed it. I then tried a USB extender cord so that I'd never have to worry about it again, but the vibration of the machine kept interrupting the connection and the machine would stop. So I went back to my tried and true flash drive and have had no problems since.....though I'm very careful when installing or removing it.

Thanks for the reply Rick, I have removed the board and plan to look for someone to replace the USB tomorrow. After you had your problems with the USB/board, I've made it a point trying to really be careful installing and removing the stick. I have always used a SanDisk stick and also added a 6" extender but had several "shutdowns" so I removed it. Like the spindle motor, I think that the USB needs to be of better quality.

I'll be interested to hear if you find someone to do the soldering of a new port. I took it to my local "expert" repair store and they said they couldn't do it.

The tech is to locate the parts and call with a quote as soon as he can. They were pretty sure they could fix it. I told them, if nothing else, cut a extender and solder the female end and wire to the board. They said that they would rather fix it right. I'll keep you posted.

FatPoppy This shop could not do the micro soldering after making them think they could.....Charged me a $35 "Diagnostic Fee" which lead to a few words and some "Informational Post" about them on the internet! I tried two other shops then decided to order the new one from ICONIC. Still haven given up, going to look on the internet and try to send it off for repair as a spare. ICONIC said that General had never offered them a replacement part for the USB port. Will post a update if I have any luck. FatPoppy

Sounds like my experience also. That USB port is something else.
