Been getting this error code recently, so I contacted Iconic and received the following back. Good information for anyone also experiencing this sort of problem. I might also mention that I emailed them at 3 on a Sunday afternoon, and had this answer back by 6.....that's good customer service.
Error 21 is usually related to an electrical issue, typically due to a fluctuation in the electrical current going to the machine. Here are a few things to look for quickly regarding the Error 21:
1) USB Stick
Try reformatting your USB Stick used to transfer code to the machine. This can be done by plugging it into your PC, right clicking on the USB Stick and selecting “Format". If this doesn't make a change, and if you have a second USB Stick available, please try using that to transfer your files to your iCarver. We recommend one that is no larger than 16GB. Often times, Error 21 can simply be due to a defective USB Stick.
2) Connect Directly to Power Source
Ensure that the machine is plugged directly into on outlet - no extension cords. If possible, try to plug the machine into a circuit that has no other electronics plugged into it (at least while we troubleshoot). Please ensure that it is fully plugged in as well - a customer recently had an issue where it was hanging a little loose in the outlet, which caused the Error 21 message. If possible, try plugging into a second circuit, to see if the problem persists.
3) HMI & Firmware Updates
Please have a look at the Version option on your handheld controller, and check the current versions of HMI & Firmware; there may be an update available for your machine.
4) UPS Filter
We recently had a customer install a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) on the machine's power source, which actually solved their Error 21 issue. The problem was that there were some fluctuations in their electrical current, which was causing the machine to temporarily lose signal. You wouldn't ever notice these fluctuations with other electronics, such as a fridge, or a phone charger, but with something such as an iCarver, which responds to electronic pulses, it can cause some issues. If you are able to get your hands on one of these, I would highly recommend it, at the very least to see if it solves the problem. If you were to purchase one, and it didn't work, make sure you can return it for a full refund (Best Buy, FutureShop, etc.).
