I should have shown the bottom of the box, had more grain in it and shows better. I goofed somehow about a week into the attempt to get the patina, I must of had some minor oil, butter, or something on one finger when I picked up the cover and it left a small spot on the top. So I sanded that off, then started with the lamp again. So the bottom is just a fraction darker than the flat top....the sides are the same so it isn't really noticeable. I'm happy with it.

Managed to finish the Cherry "ring box" two weeks before the wedding, and happy overall with the results. Definitely some things I'd do differently....for example carving out the interior pillow recesses with a router vs. trying the 1013, I could of gone deeper. I bought a LED plant growing light at the big box store, then had the top and bottom sitting under the lamp 24/7 for about two weeks. I'm really impressed that the dark cherry patina came out so well once the varnish was applied. Excuse the "pillows" inside, I'm not a seamstress and they'll be tossed once the wedding is over anyway - she just wants the box then. The pillows are intended to keep the rings in place in case the 9 year old ring bearer happens to drop the box on the way down the aisle.
