Hey there, New to the intellicarve 1013 and helping my disabled Uncle who is a Disabled USMC Veteran. Need to find out where to find the bit he needs. It's the 0.8 spiral that came with the machine. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Woodcraft or Oliver Machines two easiest places to get them.

Orders through Woodcraft actually ship directly from Oliver (at least my order through them did), so a phone call to either will get you bits from the same inventory. Oliver is on Pacific Time, so plan your phone call appropriately to get to them while they're open. The machine actually comes with two bits, the 1/50 (R05) and the 1/32 (R08). While there are several conversations on this website about buying bits, there hasn't been a lot of luck finding the 1/50 outside the factory/Woodcraft. You do have more options with the 1/32, for example from another post: "try www.toolstoday.com #46280 is a good choice. New member gets a 10% discount. I bought the 5-pack for about $200." I've also tried the 46280 with good luck, although the fact that it is carbide coated didn't seem to add to longevity in my opinion. At $40 apiece in the 5 pack, this would save you $55 over buying 5 of the same bit elsewhere. Plan on getting between 25 - 35 projects per bit before they dull, it depends on type of material cut and how much the cutting the project requires.

Note, when ordering through Oliver they automatically assume FedEx shipments. Which in my case of ordering just two bits today came to $12. If you ask, they can send it through the post office with two options, one with tracking and one without. The tracking postal option comes to $6 for shipping. But you have to ask, don't just assume. Neither of these options come with very fast shipments, expect a few days on receiving your order. The 1/50 bits were $46 each.

Are you running i-picture at 1/50 or .05 when running these bits?

I have always just been checking the box for 1/50" , which converted to mm is .51 so the difference is negligible
So far these bits have worked really well for me, as good as any I have been using since I got the machine.
I am also thinking that using a lower scan step helps some with bit life as well, if you look closely at the small cutting tip it makes sense that the higher scan step puts more of the bit cutting edge into the wood as it moves in the X and Y directions, so lowering the scan step puts less stress on those cutting edges.

I also have been using the 1/50 with these bits, and normally with any other of this size I received. More out of habit than any specific reason.

Thank you Bob and Rick. I have to get back into the swing of things and get my machine running. With the move and getting a new shop all set back up it has been taking to much of my time away from actually making things and money. BTW I ordered three of these bits yesterday.
