I was just looking thru the forum for the "other guys" up in Canada who sell the I-carver and they have stated that they are no longer offering their version of the 1013 carver (their model 40-913) They state the reason as being the confusion in the difference in operations between the 13 x 18 and the 15 x 20, mainly that the one model has the gear driven table for the Y movement and the other has a moving gantry for the Y axis. It seems that several folks bought the 40-913 from dealers who made claims that both machines were capable of the same operations , which they are not. Looking at their website confirms that they do not offer their 40-913 for sale anymore. I am hoping we are not going to be in the discontinued pile as well down the road, as their I-carvers are made by the same company as ours.

Considering I just bought mine I hope this isn't the case as well. Especially with Windows 10 coming soon.

I posed the question to Oliver tonight, and we should have an update soon. I have heard nothing about any changes from Oliver, and reading Bob's description it appears to me as if General Machine might have decided that their dealers aren't all that honest and it's become more of a hassle to carry the 913 than it's worth.

Yes, General had some pissed off owners who were misled by the dealers

Ok, I was told that the factory has assured Oliver that the 1013 will be manufactured for the next few years. The 1015PRO will continue much longer than that, and they are working on a new machine (tentatively identified as the 1016) that will be out later. The 1016 will have many more features and capabilities than the 1015, and cost several thousand dollars more. So we're all good for now, and the 1013 components are mostly the same as the 1015 so parts/support should not be any concern for a long time.
It was interesting to look at Canada's distributor product catalog, neither the 40-913 or 40-915 are featured as products and they apparently are making their own now (which could explain some of this) if I read the catalog correctly. However, they use a 913/915 as the photo for their CNC introduction page and are featuring the 915 in their "special sale" brochure (trying to pare down inventory?).
My own opinion is that I've enjoyed the 1013 in the 2.5 years I've been using it, it is exactly what I expected when I bought it.....a great tool to play with for your hobbiest type. I have had some problems {a new motherboard and a new spindle motor} over that time.....but having been around machinery all my working life I understand that things break. I feel that the 1013 is well manufactured to accomplish the goal it had, and I remain positive about it going forward.

I agree the 1013 is well built all around and it serves the purpose for which I purchased it. In the long run, I have not had to invest in cad programs, just learn to make imagery that will work on the machine.

It is my understanding that software designers / purveyors would have had access to windows 10 attributes prior to it's release so as to check for compatibility with their current versions, so I am wondering how long it will take for the engineers at Gee Tech to check out Windows 10 for issues and solutions. I have run the Windows 10 compatibility check available from their site and it says there are no issues with "apps" currently installed on my computer, however I never regarded I-Picture as an "app" but rather as software, so that definition may not apply here. I currently am running I-Picture in compatibility mode for Windows 8 on my computer. Here is a link to some info, and while the issue is discussed there are no solid answers, like for instance : Was I-Picture software originally designed for Windows XP, and if it is a 16 or 32 bit version if it is a 16 bit, it may not run on Windows 10. link

Bob I am now running Win10 and tried running I-Picture there seemed to be no problem. But you know my other issue so I have not been able to test it on the end of things. We could test this fully if you wanted to send me something to convert for you and then I can send the file back for you to run.

Wish I had a shop that large, but my wife would kill me with the sawdust levels produced.
