Strange I ordered the inch size bits and got metric ones instead. $ 82.00 for the 2 delivered. So I guess they do not quite have it together.

I chickened out and bought more from Woodcraft. I don't know why Oliver doesn't sell them directly, I understand their need to keep distributors happy but for registered owners you'd think they'd find a cheaper way to bring these to market. I spent a lot of time on the internet and can't find a good source, and it appears that Amazon no longer lists the bits.

Hey Rick, you can purchase direct from Oliver via phone order, which is direct from Oliver to you, I have done so in the past. When you order from Woodcraft they order them from Oliver and then ship them to you, so they go from Oliver to Woodcraft and then on to you.
You have to remember when you call Oliver that they are in the Pacific time zone

I believe there should be more availability out there for the tooling for these machines, and think that the ones we are all getting are imported from China anyway. I have Googled and searched all over the internet for the brand "city" which is on the bit container and there is no such brand that I have found. Additionally I don't see any good reason why I can get the .5 mm bit from busy bee for actual bit cost of $ 29.00 USD and to get from here they would be $ 40+ dollars bit cost ??

The last ones I got from Oliver were 2 of the 1/50" bits, they came to $ 105.60 delivered I think $ 8.95 of it was the shipping.

From Woodcraft I just ordered 2 ea of the R0.05 and they are $93.98 with free shipping. Strange, but having spent my life working for a distributor I know that often we could sell to customers cheaper than the factory would - it was the factories way of protecting their distributors and reducing the amount of small orders they had to process.

I'll take that back, just got the invoice from Woodcraft - the R0.5 bits are $46.99 each (I ordered 2). But they hit me with $7.28 for taxes (probably right) and $9.99 for shipping/handling. Now considering that these are shipping from Oliver rather than Woodcraft and are small enough to go in a padded 5 x 7 envelope (postage under $2), I wonder what Woodcraft needed the other $8 for?

Bob, how did the metric bits from Busy Bee work out for you? Their price seems so much better than anything else I can find - a R0.5 and R0.8 are around $116 shipped which is way too much to pay.

Rick, the bits from busy bee work just fine, the only thing is if you order the metric versions as I did you will need to get a ER 11 6mm collet as the shafts are metric as well and do NOT fit the 1/4" collet that came with the machine. I see that they have the collets listed on their page by the bits.

Could you post the link to the bits on the BusyBee site? I put BusyBee into Google and all I get is cleaning companies.
Thanks
TxDave

www.busybeetools.com(I've compared the inch version and the metric version on Busy Bee Tools and am wondering if the slight difference in size would make a difference to ipicture. The metric versions (p/n ccb004 for R0.5 and ccb003 for the R0.8) appear to be $10 (Canadian) cheaper than the inch version (ccb002 & ccb001). The only difference I get in the conversion of inch dimensions to metric is that the shaft size of 6 mm is equal to .236 where the inch version is .25.) Note that the metric will not work with the 1013 without a conversion collett.

Rick there should be no difference in the carving, since you can select the metric options for the bits in the tool menu in I-Picture when you are doing your conversion.
