Colleagues, I need your advice on using plexiglass. I have a carved picture of a parrot, picture attached, its beatiful but its also dark. Because of the bronse color it is not easily recognised. I thought of framing the carving but need some material to put at the back of the glass so that the carving can easily be seen. Is there any one that give some recommendation. Can I see an example of your work and what was your final product working with bronze plexiglass. I would be very grateful for your assistance. Walter

Walter, you're right, the picture carved wonderfully. Personally I have not yet carved in acrylics, that is a project I'd like to try after I take care of some outstanding orders for different things. You say it was bronze plexiglass, so I'm guessing it wasn't rated as transparent or semi-transparent? There is another line of discussion on this board on lithopanes, which is similar to what you are trying to do here. I can't give you any real advice since I haven't done any yet, but it looks like you might need at least a semi-transparent acrylic.

Walter, have you thought of framing it with Maple with a Maple backer, Good Bright Maple, not paint grade or brown maple as it's sometimes called, Rift Cut White Oak (as the backer and frame) might give the parrot some added texture, but not a bright as the Maple though, Birds Eye Maple would add a different texture than the RC White Oak and would be brighter. I don't know if anything as far a texture will come through your carving, but the Maple will brighten the image, and your carving is worthy of standing out.
