Machine has been running great, but when I went to change bits this morning I could not get the red push button to lock down the spindle. The shaft from the motor spins freely, but the red button does not engage or even attempt to engage. Any suggestions on what to try next?

Rick, you are the second person in almost as many days to have this problem, makes me wonder if they forgot to put in the pin that engages the shaft, the spring or forgot to put the hole in the arbor that the pin goes into.

Bob - I know everything is there, it has worked in the past although I've only changed bits twice in the two months since I've had the machine. I'm wondering if the pin is plastic and broke off the last time - I had forgotten to pull it out when I started up the machine and then pulled it out to get the spindle running. Good chance the fault is mine.

Bob, talked with Dan at the factory. First solution is to try pushing up on the collet when you are spinning it, sometimes it slips down a little and doesn't match up with the pin. That did not solve my problem, and my solution next is to take the two screws off holding the red knob in place and see if I can see the hole. I can't do that till later though.

The best I can tell by looking at my machine and the parts I have from replacing the spindle motor, that if you have enough play in the motor spindle to move it up and down by 3/16 or any other measure then you have a motor problem, that much up and down movement it could never carve right at all at least not accurately.

The part which has the hole in it for the spindle lock pin is as per the diagram is also where the collet is, and is a pressed on part. It is pressed onto the motor shaft and since this is the way that power is transfered from the motor to the collet and bit it should have no play in it. My machine does not
