Not sure I understand "vinyl paint mask". Did you paint red over a white piece of vinyl, or did you glue a red on top of a white piece? Love the sharpness of the red on, on the blue it looks like you had a problem in the z mode over the "of the" segment. The guy that told me about this called it "vinyl paint mask". When I went to the craft store and told them what I was looking for, they gave me a roll of the vinyl that some of the crafters are making signs out of. One is called Silhouette and another is Cricut. I got a 48"X12" roll to try it out. The color should not matter. Cut to size. You paint your board whatever color you want and let dry, remove the backing from the vinyl placing on the board trying to cover the board and trying not to have air bubbles. (Along about here is when my circuit board broke so the vinyl sat for about a week) Carve your 2D board (vinyl side up). After carving, remove as much of the sticky and fuzzy stuff as you can and you may want to run your fingers around the edge of the cut letters and numbers to try to seal the vinyl so that the paint will not "bleed" onto the uncut wood. Paint the letters and numbers a contrasting color. Let dry, peel off the vinyl. On the blue board, there was a flaw in the wood about where the "of the" was. I had pulled it off and that's where it bled across. My wife took a small brush and covered it up. Good Luck. FatPoppy

This sounds similar to some stuff Bob and I tried a couple years ago. I only cut one piece, and that had the bleed problem you are talking about. But to be honest, it was early on in my experience level and I think I probably used a cheap board. I think if I were to use it again, I'd make sure the board was sanded smooth before painting to make sure the sheet of adhesive stuck as well as possible. Think I still have 6-7 sheets of 8.5 x 11 of the stuff somewhere around here.
